What Does It Mean To Be Saved?
Ever wonder what people mean when they say they are “saved”? Ever wonder why they are so excited about it?
Being “saved” (also called being “born again”) means that you have:
– recognized that you are a sinner who needs to be forgiven for your sins, in order to be saved from eternal death
– learned that God loves you and has a plan for your life, both now and forever
– asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins and trusted Him to save you from eternal death in hell
then
-declared (spoke out) that Jesus is LORD, with a heart that fully believes God raised Jesus from death by the Holy Spirit
Being “saved” refers to the standing you have in Jesus Christ because you believe in Him. All believers are sealed with the blood of Jesus Christ, and seen as justified (made righteous) in the eyes of the Lord. Being excited about being saved is the result of realizing how much God loves you and knowing for sure that you will live forever in heaven
Who Needs Salvation?
1 | Every person on the face of the earth is a sinner and needs salvation. That includes me and you. It does not matter if you are a “good” person or someone who occasionally does “bad” (or questionable) things — we are all sinners. We were born into this world with a sinful nature and our natural tendencies are selfish and sinful. Nobody is perfect — except for God, Who is holy. Sin came into the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. This broke their fellowship and relationship with God. Each person born since then has also had a broken relationship with God, because He is holy and we are not. |
2 | God loves each person in the world so much that He provides a way to remove sin from us so that we can have a relationship with Him. This is done through God’s Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is unique — He is totally divine and totally human at the same time. He is the only human that NEVER sinned. A long time ago, He freely gave up His human life for our sins. He became a sacrifice and took the punishment we deserve by dying on the Cross. He died for sinners that were living back then, but also for every person born since then. Then, after Jesus died, He came back to life … and He is STILL alive today. Death and sin cannot win against Him. |
3 | In order to keep death and sin from winning against you, you must be saved. You will pass from old to new, from death to life and from sin to salvation. |
